Mindset Strategies To Help You Stay Focused!
Day one is in the books! I actually woke up and said “Oh crap” when I realized what was going to happen next. Not proud to admit that, but I’m human. I might have a morning coffee habit that controls me! I then remembered quickly that my mindset is the key to my success. So before I hopped out of bed I focused on a few things I can do to strengthen my mindset.
I meditated. I hadn’t even left my bed yet, and my thoughts were already trying to sabotage me! Isn’t it crazy that our thoughts have so much control over us? Are your thoughts for you, or against you? Are you saying to yourself “It’s too hard, I can’t do this?” If so, know you’re not alone! One thing I always talk about is, if you tell yourself you can’t, then you can’t. You’ve already lost, and you haven’t even started. Tell yourself a different story. That’s right, a story. Those lies that you feed to yourself, are just that, lies. Somewhere along the line, these things we might have thought about ourselves, or maybe someone told you, are stories. We can rewrite our story. Our thoughts shape our lives. Believe you can, and you can!
I then got out of bed with a new attitude, and I’m happy to say I’m having a great morning! I’m not so sure on how I feel about matcha in place of coffee yet, but I will give it a few more days.
Meditating doesn’t have to be complicated. Download a meditation app on your phone, or practice sitting in silence concentrating on your breath and clearing your thoughts. I personally like using the self guided meditations on my app. Do what works for you. If meditation isn’t your thing, that’s fine. There are so many ways to work on your mindset! Journaling is probably my favorite! I starting journaling years ago. It’s such a great way to work through your thoughts, and sometimes it’s just a great outlet to let stuff out!
In addition to meditation and journaling, reading self help books is another great tool for strengthening your mindset. Treat yourself to some new books this month (or go to the library), and write down some goals in your journal about what you’ve learned. Practicing self care is a huge part of strengthening your mindset. Take time every day to do something you love. Here are a few ideas.
- Take a bath! I actually do this almost daily! Lavender epsom salts and maybe a face or body scrub! If daily is too much, try for once a week! Make an at home mini spa day for yourself!
- Yoga, or take a walk…outside! I love being outside, it really does lift my mood. Not only am I getting a good dose of sunshine (hello mood booster!), I love seeing the trees and flowers bloom, and hearing the birds chirp! Honestly it’s boosting my mood just thinking about it!
- Join a bookclub, or sign up for an arts class!
And the most important one….REST!! Your body needs to rest and sleep!! If you are constantly sleep deprived, you are hurting your body. Your body needs enough sleep…every night to rejuvenate itself! Any less than what it needs is damaging. I know that when I don’t sleep enough, I make poor choices with foods and I lack the energy to have a productive workout. All of that also interferes with your bodies ability to manage stress. Doesn’t life seem more complicated and overwhelming when you’re tired?!? Yuck! Do yourself a favor, try to sleep 8 hours a night, your mind and your body will thank you!
Whether or not you are following my gut reset with me, being mindful and practicing self love will help you stay focused throughout the day! If I wouldn’t have been fully rested this morning, I might have just reached for that cup of coffee instead! I’m also mostly consuming bone broth for three days, I need to sleep the eight hours my body needs in order for me to function at my best.
Set yourself up for success and nurture your mind, body and soul!
